Dilute Acetic Acid Glassware Acid Rinse

August 7, 2026 · Anshul

Always add acid to water – never water to concentrated acid. Glacial acetic acid is corrosive and has a strong odour; use a fume hood or strong ventilation. Follow SDS.

Steps

  1. Put ~900 ml demineralised water in a heat-safe beaker.
  2. Slowly add 50 ml glacial acetic acid with stirring; top up to 1 L.
  3. Rinse detergent-washed glassware, then rinse thoroughly with water and optionally IPA.
