Lab Notes: Zinc Oxide Dispersion for Sunscreen Trials

August 7, 2026 · Anshul

Educational only – SPF claims require proper testing and regulatory compliance. This is not a finished sunscreen formula.

Zinc oxide must be well dispersed to avoid grit. Use appropriate oils/emulsifiers for your chassis and verify particle grade.

Steps

  1. Pre-wet zinc oxide into a portion of the oil phase with high-shear mixing.
  2. Build the emulsion per your emulsifier protocol (cetyl alcohol as co-emulsifier/thickener if used).
  3. Cool, add water-phase humectants, preserve, and evaluate sensory – then send for SPF testing before any claim.

Shop zinc oxide and read emulsifier basics.
